In celebration of World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) on 29 June 2010, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) invites designers from around the globe to initiate events reflecting this year’s theme:

“Industrial Design: Humane solutions for a resilient world”

This topic was selected to facilitate collaboration within the industrial design community with the goal of producing tangible solutions to world problems.

“This theme stems from the immense response received from our recent ‘Uniting Designers in Disaster’ initiative launched on Facebook on 22 January in light of the disaster in Haiti and conveys the important role industrial design can play in global issues,” stated President Mark Breitenberg.

While the theme for WIDD 2010 calls on the design community to contribute their knowledge and skill, this day of observance is significant in fostering a global understanding of industrial design and all that it encompasses.

Events will take place in the following countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Ireland, Iran, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and United Kingdom.

For a list of events go here.

Expo 2010 Shanghai China will also be a grand international gathering. China shall endeavor to attract about 200 nations and international organizations to take part in the exhibition as well as 70 million visitors from home and abroad, ensuring the widest possible participation in the history of the World Expositions.

DesignMarch is an event organized by the Iceland Design Center from the 18 to the 21 of March. Whether it is Icelandic designers exhibiting interesting new designs, work in progress or old favorites, the aim of DesignMarch is to create a refreshing town fair, where Icelandic design meets the media, the public and tourists. All over the city – in abandoned warehouses, shops, galleries, restaurants and even in the streets – Icelandic design is bursting forth.

DesignMarch aims to imbue the city with life, with design at every step. In 2010, vacant shop premises were filled with Icelandic design; cafés served their refreshments in Icelandic crockery; exhibitions and installations were seen all over town. Not to mention shops outside the city center, exhibitions and open studios.

DesignMarch also included a series of lectures, seminars, film screenings, and a new approach to city sightseeing, guided by architects.

Next March 25th, 2010, the new showroom Davide Groppi in Barcelona will open, in the heart of Born. This is an exhibition space designed by the creative and multidisciplinary hop! design studio. The area is signed by the Italian interior designer Paolo Tosi, who shared, from a long time, friendship and feeling with Davide Groppi and its projects.

This is the first exhibition and single brand sale space of Davide Groppi in Spain, is an innovative concept in many aspects: not only is a place for exhibition and sales, but above all a space for projecting where designers and creatives can offer and share their experiences, united by the taste and the search for minimal and essential light.

Within this space, are located, in fact, other activities related to the design world, from fashion to photography through architecture. 200 square meters where white and black alternate in a game of full and empty; frameless windows and white divisions at different heights, in contrast to the walls with the texture of marble and iron, mark the working areas of the other activities developed into the area.

The showroom is aimed at both designers, architects, professionals and the general public. A space oriented to understand light, performed in its many applications and nuances of purity and functionality.

Premiere Classe at the Jardin des Tuileries is the essential event in the creative world of Paris.

In twenty years and twice a year, Premiere Classe sets up at the heart of the French capital, when Paris becomes the stage on which the creators’ catwalks are set. Premiere Classe presents a selection of cutting-edge, top of the range creators, who influence the purchasing of an exclusive international distribution. From young designers to well-established brands, from urban labels to craftsmen, our teams have always put forward the products’ beauty and know-how, no matter the background and origin.

In October 2009, Premiere Classe celebrated its 20th birthday. To start this new decade, the trade show layout was entirely rethought, with the shoe offer now concentrated at the other end of the tent. This change created an added source of energy and gave the visitors the opportunity to discover the trade fair and brands with a new eye.

To spice things up, Premiere Classe welcomed 20 new brands this session. Among them, shoe designers Michel Perry, Rodolphe Menudier, Daniele Michetti, but also Thierry Mugler who, for the first time, was introducing his shoe collection on a trade fair. As for bags, My Suelly and Fausto Santini have definitely drawn the attention of buyers, just like Fiona Paxton and Simon Harrison for jewels.

Premiere Classe is the junction between Luxury and Creation.
