Bocci has introduced a huge range of color in its 28 series collection. Creative Director Omer Arbel’s intent behind 28 was to design a system that produces form, rather than designing form itself. A magnificent success, the pendants are designed to cluster in hexagonal shapes, which nestle into one another. Adding color introduces a grand range of infinite possibilities, from clustering by similar hues to creating amazing multicolor installations.

Amsterdam architects UNStudio have completed this department store in Cheonan, South Korea.

Called Galleria Centercity, the building has facade comprising two layers of lamellas, which create a moiré effect. Daylight is admitted through the facade and reflected around the all-white interior to reduct the need for artificial lighting.

From UNStudio: “The Galleria Cheonan responds to the current retail climate in Asia, where department stores also operate as social and semi-cultural meeting places. Because of this, the quality of the public spaces within the building was treated as an integral aspect of the design.” Ben van Berkel.

“Pour Lighting” by Korean designer Yeongwoo Kim, is an original lamp idea that manages to intrigue and fascinate its viewers, because at first this product simply looks impossible. Pour Lighting is a design inspired by a spilling cup of tea (it even has the tea bag inside for an extra lifelike effect). This product can be moved around by grabbing the pouring liquid, it is sustained by spilled tea and it lights up with the help of a tea bag.

The Hanoi Lamp by Argentinean designer Federico Churba was created following an apparent simplicity for a harmonious complexity of shapes. This lamp is realized in one horizontal plane that acquires form and volume through the bends of the material. A formal simplicity defined by details. A warm and intimate light, like the kind gesture of someone bowing down in greeting.

Designers Jörg Boner and Christian Deuber have created the Nan18 floor lamp for the Switzerland based manufacturer Nanoo.

The lamp comprise individual tin slats, arranged circularly to create a conic lampshade. The emergent light is soft and atmospheric. It falls as direct light through an opaque sheet of acrylic glass. Indirect light rises towards the ceiling. The lampshade stands on a stainless steel tube, which is also white. A concrete socle, either in white or naturally coloured concrete, creates the base for the standard lamp.

The Grass Lamp by designer Marko Vuckovic is an innovative concept that has been designed to enhance the décor of a home interior with natural elements, aiming to bring warmth and uniqueness in the user’s homes. The concept incorporates a part of nature right inside the house designed to be placed on the wall to represent a modern and eco-friendly aesthetic of the home interior. Aside from helping the grass to be grown on the lamp, it discretely lightens the room which lets the user to directly connect with nature. Thin and light PVC plastic has been used to make the lamp with reserved inside space for the soil, and also features water container and areas to be lightened with great functionality.

Powered by hybrid capacitors, capable of severe temperature with no maintenance over 10 years, the “Nissyoku” is an elegant lamp that draws inspiration from a solar eclipse to illuminate your place. Presenting a metal ring in the middle to switch it on or off, the lamp also integrates two panels, fixed with magnets, which “move on the concave surface made out of the intersection of the two globes.” Produced through vacuum forming, the lamp makes use of a 5W high-powered LED in each panel. Featuring a body finished in reusable or decomposing polymer, the lamp meeting the needs of different users can be used as hanging chandelier, table or wall lamp.

At Maison et Objet 2010 in Paris, Dutch designer Marre Moerel presented her new collection of earthenware ceramics, based on the universal cone shape. Through experimentation and manipulation she developed several objects with very different forms and functions.

From the basic cone shapes Moerel created ‘Diamond Lights’ a new series of pendant and wall lamps, by joining 2 cone shapes at their base and cutting into the newly created rhomboid. Resulting were 3 different models in 3 different sizes.

The Monja series has been created by stacking one cone on top of another and lighting the piece from within. Through the opaqueness of the ceramic, the upper shade seems to be floating above the lower ceramic base, hereby creating a more abstract sculptural composition.
