Honeycomb Restaurant

The Honeycomb Restaurant in Shenzhen, China was designed by Japan based Sako Architects.

The white surfaces of the large space undulate in plane, and form six bands of ‘pleats’ that become the boundary for each space. In section, they appear like six ‘honeycombs’. Over 1000 oval shaped holes have been opened on the surface, and a subtle continuity has been established between the two areas.

These holes bulge on the outer surface like empty pots, and enrich the space with an organic expression. Base on such manipulation of space, a hall with ceiling height of 9.2 is form at the outer side, and VIP rooms for private use at the inner side. The diameter, angle, and level vary for each of the 6 honeycombs. Based on such variations, hierarchies are established in terms of VIP room sizes, and ceiling height etc.

The inner side of the white surface is divided up to two levers, of which consist of large room and private rooms as well. A spiral staircase penetrates between the levels, and in the center, about twenty five thousands of acrylic balls hang from the 9.2 meters ceiling above. Drops of water dribble along the lines of acrylic balls, and glitter under the strong ceiling light. It looks like as if a waterfall is running down from the ceiling. This waterfall is an eye-catcher from the entrance and draws customers’ attention to the back of the restaurant.

Designed by D_raw, in collaboration with the hospitality consultancy A Private View and brand specialists Made Thought, the site, as one of a very small number to offer food and drink on Bond street, will boast not only a daytime restaurant but also a less formal café area and a large, sculptural, showpiece of a cocktail bar central to the no-expense-spared space. The restaurant also has a fashion library of books and magazines and a ‘champagne burst’ chandelier rising above the pewter wrapped cocktail bar.

The Wright Restaurant New York

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Guggenheim Museum’s Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building, New York City’s newest restaurant The Wright has opened to the public. Named in honor of Frank Lloyd Wright, the Upper East Side destination is located in a modern space designed by architect Andre Kikoski.

The 1,600 square-foot space features: a curvilinear wall of walnut layered with illuminated fiber-optics; a bar clad in a shimmering skin of innovative custom metalwork and topped in seamless white Corian; a sweeping banquette with vivid blue leather seating backed by illuminated planes of woven grey texture; and a layered ceiling canopy of taut white membrane.

Andre Kikoski Architect’s design philosophy for The Wright engages the heightened sense of procession that is essential to the experience of the Guggenheim – and the dynamic perception of art that it fosters. Surfaces and textures are animated by movement, creating an ever-changing fluid aesthetic that is an essential part of the design.

Sosushi Italy

Sosushi is the first sushi franchising network in Italy. While Sosushi prides itself on their extrovert menu, they also take great pride in the design of each restaurant. This is very evident in the Turin, Italy restaurant designed by UAU Architects. Located deep in the city center of this historical urban city, UAU was challenged to create a modern and trendy space within this small old stationery store. The result is beautiful.

The shop is finished with the amazing Plexwood with matte white and magenta furniture to give an illusion of a spacious interior. The biggest challenge of the project was to optimize the space “in the deep research of order and refinement that distinguish all our architectures, not avoiding pragmatism.”

UAU was able to maximize this small space by working around the perimeter. They created benches and shelves that extended deep into the corners, which in turn, eliminated many awkward nooks and crannies and made the restaurant feel very open.

70 Locations across Italy.
