An interior that needs light is exactly what the Ameba lights were created for. Incredibly versatile, the five individual pieces of the Ameba light can be combined into a large array of combinations. Created for the Barcelona based lighting manufacturer Vibia, these lights bring form to the pleasure of creating your own space. Interlocking features offer the possibility of playing with shapes and light as well as looking splendid.

Spanish de signer Pete Sans designed the Ameba pendant concept calculating the needs of any space. No matter how big or small, one of the 5 light fixtures or a combination of two or more can create a beautiful and contemporary ambient, the range of options going from one single 30 x 50 cm pendant to a composition of over 10 square meters. Interlocking for a better use of space and design, the 5 sections of the lights are wired to each other so no matter how many sections are used, only one j.box is needed in the ceiling.

Designguide.tv visits the Vienna Design Week 2010. In this first episode we take an overview tour of some of our favorite exhibits of the festival. A large collection of italian master designers’ light designs was shown at the Bulb Fiction exhibition at Klaus Engelhorn’s Depot. The work of young studios such as Polka, Driftdesign and Mischer’Traxler was mixed in forming an interesting view on classic and new lighting design.

Influencers is a short documentary that explores what it means to be an influencer and how trends and creativity become contagious today in music, fashion and entertainment.

The film attempts to understand the essence of influence, what makes a person influential without taking a statistical or metric approach.

Written and Directed by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson, the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives (advertising, design, fashion and entertainment) who are shaping today’s pop culture.

“Influencers” belongs to the new generation of short films, webdocs, which combine the documentary style and the online experience.

This brilliant, 30-story midtown Manhattan hotel evokes a contemporary statement in limestone and glass, just a stone’s throw from Fifth Avenue. Sofitel Hotel is located within easy reach of Manhattan’s most celebrated attractions. Sights near this four-diamond midtown Manhattan hotel include Times Square, Broadway theaters, world-famous restaurants, art museums and corporate headquarters.

In a daring and audacious move, Sofitel announced a new vision for the brand at the end of 2007. The new vision for Sofitel would build on its existing values by differentiating and redefining its standards to launch itself into the luxury market. The re-launch of the brand included a new visual identity. A modern geometric style, the ‘O’ of Sofitel symbolically represent the unity created as host and traveler are brought together.

The Designers’ Association of the Valencia Region (ACDV) has been promoting design for 25 years and is now organizing Valencia Disseny Week (VDW) for the second year running. It will be running from 27 September to 2 October in parallel to the Feria Hábitat Valencia.

The purpose of VDW is to support, promote and group together all design-related initiatives that are organized in the city of Valencia during said week, such as exhibitions, presentations, parties, showrooms, discussions, workshops, meetings, markets, etc. The Designers’ Association of the Valencia Region (ACDV) is also organizing a series of events alongside the activities lined up for the week.

Valencia is a city that has gradually positioned itself as one of the main creative hubs on the international scene. For decades, design in the Valencia Region has been backed by a consolidated network of design professionals, companies, schools, universities, technology institutes, institutions and associations. All of these factors added to the superb Mediterranean climate and the city’s vast cultural wealth, make Valencia an exceptional venue to host a Design Week.

The spirit of VDW

Valencia Design Week aims to promote design in society, bringing it closer to the general public, as design forms part of everyone’s culture and day to day lives. The spirit of Valencia Disseny Week is that everyone can enjoy design in the city itself. It will show innovative projects, fresh ideas that evoke new alternatives and the huge array of disciplines that represent the profession. The basis of VDW is design made in the Valencia Region but it also showcases the best of Spanish and international design in this Mediterranean city.

This amazing interior design idea comes from Nema Workshop and belongs to D’Espresso Cafe located on Madison Avenue, in New York City. The idea was to create a strong identity for the bar that would immediately stand out and be easily recognized.

“Inspired by the nearby Bryant Park Library, Nema Workshop designed a store that is straightforward in a simple twisted way – take a library and turn it sideways. The book lined shelves become the floor and ceilings and wood floor ends up on the walls meanwhile the pendants protrude sideways from the wall. To achieve the books shelves on the floor, the space is lined with sepia-toned full size photograph of books printed on custom tiles.”
