Designguide.tv visits the Vienna Design Week 2010. In this first episode we take an overview tour of some of our favorite exhibits of the festival. A large collection of italian master designers’ light designs was shown at the Bulb Fiction exhibition at Klaus Engelhorn’s Depot. The work of young studios such as Polka, Driftdesign and Mischer’Traxler was mixed in forming an interesting view on classic and new lighting design.

From October 23 through October 31 2010, Eindhoven presents the 9th edition of Dutch Design Week, the largest design event in the Netherlands. The Designers’ Association of the Valencia Region (ACDV) has been promoting design for 25 years and is now organizing Valencia Disseny Week (VDW) for the second year running. It will be running from 27 September to 2 October in parallel to the Feria Hábitat Valencia.

The purpose of VDW is to support, promote and group together all design-related initiatives that are organized in the city of Valencia during said week, such as exhibitions, presentations, parties, showrooms, discussions, workshops, meetings, markets, etc. The Designers’ Association of the Valencia Region (ACDV) is also organizing a series of events alongside the activities lined up for the week.

This amazing interior design idea comes from Nema Workshop and belongs to D’Espresso Cafe located on Madison Avenue, in New York City. The idea was to create a strong identity for the bar that would immediately stand out and be easily recognized.

“Inspired by the nearby Bryant Park Library, Nema Workshop designed a store that is straightforward in a simple twisted way – take a library and turn it sideways. The book lined shelves become the floor and ceilings and wood floor ends up on the walls meanwhile the pendants protrude sideways from the wall. To achieve the books shelves on the floor, the space is lined with sepia-toned full size photograph of books printed on custom tiles.”
